Carolina Polo & Carriage Company

Carriages are one of the most popular ways to see Charleston. Carriage guides are articulate, engaging and well educated. The experience is similar to being in the classroom of a great teacher, except that your classroom is tree-lined streets of historic Charleston.

What You'll Do

Carriage Tours are heavily regulated by the city of Charleston and all routes are designated – it is not at the discretion of the tour operator to choose the route. That said, there is an abundance of historical buildings and the knowledge of the guides are second to none. Listen as an unscripted account of the Holy City is given by a guide who is capable of fielding a variety of questions. Good to know - The horses are retired plow horses that work one week on and one week off. On their off weeks, they are pastured outside the city on a spacious farm. During the summer, for the safety of the horses, we will not operate a tour when the temperature reaches above 98 degrees F.

"A MUST do in Charleston"

July 11, 2015 -

I have vacationed in Charleston for the past couple of years, but this is the first time we have ever been on a carriage tour and I can’t believe I waited so long! My husband is a history buff and was blown away to learn some of the history of Charleston he didn’t know about. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge and encouraged questions. It rained a little at the end of our tour, but since the carriages are canopied we didn’t get wet and it was actually a nice break to the heat. Will definitely be taking another carriage tour and telling our friends about it.
