We find the best views in the swamp are from the outside edge seats. We highly recommend sitting on the outside edge seats, nearest the boat captain guide, for the best experiences. While sunscreen and bugspray are not a necessity (boats are covered and bugs are interested in plants, not people), for those with bug or sun sensitivity, we recommend that you spray yourself prior to the tour, but not inside of our bus (for the safety of our fellow passengers and sanitation of the bus, spraying bug spray or sunscreen is not permitted in the bus). We recommend loose fitting, clothes or clothes made from "wicking material" for your comfort during the summer months. We recommend comfortable shoes (tennis shoes, sandals, flats). This is not a fashion show and you will not enjoy walking the grounds in uncomfortable shoes- trust us! While tipping is not a requirement, Please reward your guides with a tip/gratuity. We recommend using the standard tipping amount for boat guides/captains and bus guides/drivers which is $2/per person. Thanks for your generosity!
Our tours are perfect for any age group and any "fitness level." Guests must be able to walk from the pick up location to the bus, and from the bus to the boat/bathrooms and back (on gravel and grass), without assistance. Though our tours are OPEN TO ALL AGES, the content and concepts contained in our narrative, and the narrative of the boat captain guides, are frequently geared more toward those over 7 years of age. Younger children may find the swamp environment, and any potential animal encounters, to be frightening and are generally discouraged from swamp tours, though they are not banned from attending! If your child has a tendency to not be able to sit for long periods of time, gets restless, or “acts out,” we encourage you not to take the swamp tour for the comfort of all the guests on board. Please consider this prior to reserving your ticket.
Your meeting/pick up location is your hotel, or other agreed upon location. Please call the phone number in your confirmation email to arrange accordingly. We pick up under or nearby the awning located outside of your hotel's main entry door. WE MAY NOT PICK UP FROM PRIVATE RESIDENCES OR MANY AIR B&Bs DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE, PLEASE CHECK WITH US TO SEE IF YOUR LOCATION IS ELIGIBLE FOR PICK UP. Unless you are notified of us coming in another vehicle, please look for the small white bus with the Redstick Adventures Logo and the blue cityscape on the side. If you are needing to be picked up at your hotel, please indicate your hotel name and its address in “The Delivery Address” section in the box which will appear at checkout. Otherwise, you can meet us at : 298 River Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70801 (under the green information gazebo).
Yourself, any guests or family members in your party, a camera (or smart phone/tablet with a camera), a desire to learn and explore while having a good time, and a sense of humor. Sunscreen and bug repellant only if you deem it necessary (this has never been needed on any tour in the past, but this is up to your discretion).
We will call you to arrange a pick up time, but typically we need you to be ready according to the following: 9:15am Swamp Tour - be ready for pickup at 7:30am 4:15pm Swamp Tour - be ready for pickup at 2:30pm Other tour times are available, but call us to check the schedule and to reserve tickets.
If you are joining us at the Information/Transportation Gazebo on South River Road, there is metered parking along River Road, up North Blvd. and within walking distance. We also recommend parking in one of the two the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino's free covered garages located either behind the casino, or next door to USS Kidd Museum. The cost of any parking is not included in the tour admission cost and will not be reimbursed by Red Stick Adventures. We also do not have the ability to "validate" any parking vouchers/coupons you may receive.
On the bus: Only bottled drinks with a sealed/sealable cap are allowed. No fountain drinks, covered/uncovered coffee cups, open cups/glasses are allowed. No food, candy, gum, mints or other "snacks" are allowed for sanitation purposes and for the comfort of our other guests. Thank you for respecting this policy. At the swamp: There are drinks available for purchase in machines, you can also purchase alcoholic beverages through the gift shop (must be 21 years old to consume by LA Law). There are a variety of snacks in the gift shop as well. Feel free to eat at the various picnic benches available on site, or on the boat (by discretion of the captain). Please dispose of any open food containers/bags/wrappers in the various trash disposal bins on the Swamp Tour grounds, prior to re-entering the bus, as only bottled drinks will be allowed upon your return.
Unfortunately, we are not handicap accessible. Unfortunately, our buses are not handicap-lift equipped and for insurance reasons, our drivers are not able to offer assistance. Strollers and walkers are not permitted, unless they can fit directly in front of you in your seat area only. Due to space limitations, and for the comfort of all of our guests, strollers are typically not permitted on the tours. Child-carrier backpacks, slings, and front-packs are allowed and highly recommended.
** Please note ------>all pricing reflects all applicable fees and taxes (subject to change)<----- ** Tours operate rain or shine. Boats are covered and will operate unless they are required to be shut down by the coast guard. Please be aware of weather forecasts and come prepared for rapidly changing weather. Tours cancelled by Red Stick Adventures: Tours may be rescheduled or cancelled due to demand, road closures, museum closure, mechanical failure or extreme weather. In the event that tours are cancelled by Red Stick Adventures, you will receive a full refund. We apologize in advance if this occurs. There is a no refund policy except for tours cancelled prior to 24 hours before the tour time starts. Tours cancelled by guests/purchasers(s): Tours may be cancelled by the guest/ticket purchaser(s) up to 24 hours in advance of the scheduled tour, and purchaser will receive a refund. Tours cancelled by guest/purchaser anytime after the 24 hour refund window, are non-refundable, no exceptions. Same day tours are non-refundable. In the rare event that a passenger's behavior, or their children's behavior, causes the driver to have to stop the tour and have that guest and/or child leave the bus, or be escorted off by law enforcement, no refund will be issued for any party involved in said event. In the unfortunate event that a passenger's physical health deteriorates during the tour, causing a need to have the tour stop to have the passenger seek medical assistance, or the passenger chooses to prematurely end the tour due to health concerns, no refund will be issued.
Red Stick Adventures tours operate rain or shine, unless there is closure due to an extreme weather event (such as torrential storms, tropical storms, hurricanes, or in the extreme rare event- snow) or closures of most of our accessible areas due to circumstances beyond our control (such as parades, or festivals, wrecks) or acts of nature/god. On rainy days, we suggest wearing water-resistant shoes, bringing an extra pair of socks, wearing a poncho or raincoat, and/or carrying an umbrella. Sine this tour operates primarily inside a bus, and on a covered boat, weather should not be a hindrance of this tour, unless the swamp boats are deemed not usable and cancelled by the US Coast Guard.
Susan is a fabulous hostess! We wish we found her and Red Stick Adventures sooner on our trip. Susan picked us up at our hotel, took us to our swamp tour, and due to some highly irregular Baton Rouge traffic, gave us an impromptu, fun, and informative tour of downtown. She is very knowledgeable about the history in Louisiana and it was like driving around town with a friend. We definitely recommend Red Stick Adventures if you’re looking for something to do.
The tour was interesting, informative and the guide was really good at it!
