Sit back and enjoy – leave the driving to us in our air-conditioned mini bus. Don’t fight traffic, or get lost in the “country.” When you travel with us, you will watch as the landscape changes from cityscapes, to farmland to grand plantations just behind the levee of the Mississippi River. Explore and get a full belly! While you travel with the plantation house guide inside the mansion, you will be surrounded by gorgeous and extravagant rooms, beautiful antiques, while learning the history of the home. Take a long walk along the path and enjoy the beautiful gardens on site. And, if scheduled and time permits, enjoy a grand buffet of Southern Delicacies and Delights at the plantation restaurant (price is not included, but guests may choose to add this additional perk). It’s a great value! Your tour ticket cost includes roundtrip transportation to and from your hotel (limited areas- call us to discuss), admission to the 1-hour guided, narrated mansion tour, self-guided gardens/grounds tour, plus fun facts, trivia and entertaining facts about the Baton Rouge region along your journey. You can’t get that by taking your own car, UBER, or any other way. Just transportation alone to the plantation, for one person, if you take a taxi cab, from Baton Rouge is $140, AND that does not include admission to the plantation!
The walkways are concrete and smooth, but being that this is a plantation, there is a moderate amount of walking along these paths. While sunscreen and bug spray are not a requirement, for those with bug or sun sensitivity, we recommend that you spray yourself prior to the tour, but not inside of our bus (for the safety of our fellow passengers and sanitation of the bus, spraying bug spray or sunscreen is not permitted in the bus). We recommend loose fitting, comfortable clothes or clothes made from "wicking material" for your comfort during the summer months. We recommend comfortable shoes (tennis shoes, sandals, flats). This is not a fashion show and you will not enjoy walking the grounds in uncomfortable shoes- trust us!
Our tours are perfect for any age group and any fitness level. Guests must be prepared for a moderate amount of walking on the plantation tour due to the expansive grounds at the plantation. Guests must be able to walk from the pick up location to the bus, and from the bus to the welcome center/gift shop and back, without assistance. Though our tours are open to all ages, the content and concepts contained in our narrative, and the narrative of the plantation mansion guide(s), are frequently geared more toward those over 7 years of age. If your child has a tendency to not be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, gets restless or “acts out,” we encourage you not to take the plantation tour for the comfort of all the guests attending.
Your meeting/pick up location is your hotel, or other agreed upon location. Please call the phone number in your confirmation email to arrange accordingly. We pick up under or nearby the awning located outside of your hotel's main entry door. WE DO NOT PICK UP FROM PRIVATE RESIDENCES OR MANY AIR B&Bs DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. Otherwise, you can meet us at : 298 River Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70801 (under the green information gazebo).
Yourself, any guests or family members in your party, a camera (or smart phone/tablet with a camera), a desire to learn and explore while having a good time, money for the gift shop, and a sense of humor. If you are joining us at the Information/Transportation Gazebo on South River Road, there is metered parking along River Road, up North Blvd. and within walking distance. We also recommend parking in one of the two the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino's free covered garages located either behind the casino, or next door to USS Kidd Museum. We also do not have the ability to "validate" any parking vouchers/coupons you may receive.
Only bottle drinks with a cap are allowed. No fountain drinks, covered/uncovered coffee cups, open cups/glasses are allowed. No food, candy, gum, mints or other "snacks" are allowed for sanitation purposes and for the comfort of our other guests. Thank you for respecting this policy. Some snack foods, drinks and ice cream are available in the gift shop, and guests are welcome to purchase and consume them while on the plantation grounds only.
Unfortunately, we are not handicap accessible. Unfortunately, our buses are not handicap-lift equipped and for insurance reasons, our drivers are not able to offer assistance. Strollers and walkers are not permitted, unless they can fit directly in front of you in your seat area only. Due to space limitations, and for the comfort of all of our guests, strollers are typically not permitted on the tours. Red Stick Adventures tours operate rain or shine, unless there is closure due to an extreme weather event (such as torrential storms, tropical storms, hurricanes, or in the extreme rare event- snow) or closures of most of our accessible areas due to circumstances beyond our control (such as parades, or festivals, wrecks) or acts of nature/god. On rainy days, we suggest wearing water-resistant shoes, bringing an extra pair of socks, wearing a poncho or raincoat, and/or carrying an umbrella.
It was great, the plantation was beautiful and Susan was very knowledgeable and went above our expectations to make sure our trip was unforgettable
Stunning house and gardens wonderful history
Take the time to do this tour. You learn so much about the history and around that period of time in the Southern States and those living on the shores of the Mississippi.
This tour was really enjoyable Redstick tours took care of all the arrangements, drove us to the plantation, and provided lots of local history commentary on the way out and back. I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in seeing one of Louisiana's great sugar plantations. You will not be disappointed.
