Classic Carriage Works

What You'll Do

This tour is focused on the history of slavery in Charleston and the impact of West African culture on the Lowcountry. This tour will delve into Charleston's role as the busiest slave port in North America, the daily life of slaves in the city and plantations. Also included are stories about the Civil War, reconstruction, and the subsequent struggle for civil rights. Learn about the Gullah culture as well as the various slave rebellions, abolitionists, and social movements in the area. The carriage is drawn by beautiful Percheron draft horses, and Classic Carriage has the best animal care record in Charleston.
